About Our Lady & the Roses:

Roses are significant to Mary as symbols of her purity, love and role as the Mother of God. In the story of Our Lady of Guadalupe, she directed Juan Diego to pick roses in the dead. He carried and hid them in his tilma until he saw the bishop, as directed.

The fact that Juan Diego found Castilian roses in December was miracle in itself. These roses did not grow in Mexico, let alone in the dead of winter! 

 Juan did not realize until after the roses tumbled from his cloak that the most beautiful image of Our Lady of Guadalupe was emblazoned before them. 

Within nine years of her appearance, nine million Mexicans were baptized into the Catholic Church. Our Lady of Guadalupe is the reason that Mexico became a Catholic country.
